Responsibility
At Nicklas Skovgaard, we recognize that fashion operates within a global system that has environmental, social, and cultural impacts. As a small, independent brand, we are part of this system—and we don't claim to have all the solutions. What we offer is transparency, a considered approach, and an ongoing commitment to making thoughtful choices.
We produce two collections a year, building on previous seasons rather than starting from scratch. This continuity reflects our creative direction and serves as a deliberate step away from the fast pace of overproduction. Our production is primarily based in Denmark and Europe, where we can maintain direct relationships with manufacturers. This helps us ensure a certain level of quality, traceability, and working conditions—not as a promise of perfection, but as part of how we work.
Textiles are a core part of our identity. We choose materials based on both their design potential and their ability to endure over time. When possible, we use surplus or deadstock fabrics from European mills and suppliers. We are gradually incorporating more certified fabrics into our collections, with the understanding that sourcing is a continuous process—not a one-time fix.
We avoid using terms like “sustainable” without clear context. Fashion uses resources and creates waste—this is an unavoidable reality. Rather than make claims we can’t fully stand behind, we focus on producing fewer pieces, made with care, that are designed to last and be worn over time.
Responsibility, to us, is not a marketing statement or a finished goal. It’s part of our everyday work—reflected in the materials we choose, the pace we set, and the relationships we build. We remain committed to moving forward with honesty, and to refining our approach as we learn.
